The Internet (Un)Officially Ran Out Of Space

Yup.  According to CNN.com, “The nonprofit group that assigns addresses to service providers announced that, on Thursday morning, it allocated the last free Internet addresses available from the current pool used for most of the Internet’s history.”  So, the Internet is done.  It’s over.  Bye, bye, Internet.

Nope.  Just kidding!  Well, sort of.  It did run out of space, but they have been anticipating this for years and years and have actually been ready for it since 1999.  There is a new pool of addresses that is much, much bigger than the last.  The old pool had about 4.3 billion addresses.  The new one has 340 undecillion, which is 340 with 36 zeros attached to it.  I’m pretty sure they will not run out of new addresses for a very, very long time.

How could this affect you as an Internet Marketer?  Well, just contact your hosting service and make sure they linked you to a new address.  (Now, this doesn’t mean your actual website name; it means the string of numbers and decimal points that is the actual address [the IP address].  The new strings are much longer, and include numbers as well as other characters.)  But, all in all, you shouldn’t have to worry.
